Therapy With Me:
I'm a warm and casual therapist who provides support and guidance as you take the lead in working to change what's not working for you. I will always be open, understanding and respectful of what you bring to the table. I believe you already have all the answers you need, but will help you overcome whatever deep rooted barriers are getting in the way. What does that look like? It means you're in the driver's seat, but I'm right there beside you, helping you notice things along the drive you've never seen before and encouraging you to try new routes. Rather than pointing out your deficits, I'm more interested in helping you figure out what your strengths and resources are and how you can channel these to better meet the challenges you're facing.
How Therapy Will Help You
The perinatal period is full of challenges, whether you're finding it harder than you imagined to get pregnant, are struggling with a birth that didn't go according to plan or aren't thriving in a new parent role. Let's get honest, change what we can and figure out how to cope with the rest.
This is also a popular time for unresolved issues from the past to resurface. I'm trained in the latest and most effective means of trauma treatment and offer EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to facilitate the healing of trauma, both old and new. You will find this to be a fast and efficient way of processing past hurts and letting go of problematic patterns you experience on repeat.
Additionally, I'll help your relationship feel more deeply connected as you navigate fertility challenges, mourn the loss of children you almost had or negotiate differences in parenting styles so your family remains unbroken.
A Little About Me
I hold a master’s degree in art therapy and a doctorate in the study of human behavior. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, registered board-certified art therapist, and am trained in EMDR and perinatal mental health.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my partner, our young sons and our foxhound, exploring nature, being active or creative, doing projects on our house, or checking out Portland’s craft beer and restaurant scene.
